My name is Ali Weiss and welcome back to episode two of Tales of Taboo.

That feels so much better to say than health is hell.

It's like I had an exorcism or a lobotomy in Switzerland.

And now I'm back and I feel amazing.

All right.

Enough of that bullshit.

Let's jump into it.

So right after she graduated and moved to New York, one of my good friends from college got a job as an

assistant for a very popular reality star who turned into a very successful businesswoman.

And growing up in the Manhattan private school system, I had plenty of friends whose parents

were prominent business people or celebrities, but I only ever knew them as my friend's parents.

And, you know, there's a certain delusion that comes with growing up in that world because you think that's normal.

And naturally, you never really contemplate what these people might be like to work for

or what their business ethics are like.

So my friend gets this job and she was the first person I knew who worked on the other

side of this exclusive world. And I will never forget what her life was like during that time.

I mean, she always had two iPhones on her. One was personal and one was work. And she brought them with her

everywhere she went, constantly checking them and constantly having anxiety about like missing a

single text. So she could never fully let go when we were out drinking with our friends.
