I trained at Harrods and I was pretty good at what I did, not that great.

There were some really talented people who worked with me and I really wasn't as good of them

and I was very aware that I wasn't as good of them.

But I was okay, you know, I got by.

I got offered a promotion to look after what were then called the way in windows. That was the

fashion bit, the groovy fashion bit. And I remember thinking, I can't do that. I've never managed

a budget. I've never managed people. And I'm really good at creative ideas, but I can't do that.

And so I said no. And I left and I started doing freelance work

and bombing around the West End

and Chelsea at the time in my little open sports car.

And then one day my boyfriend, who became my husband,

said to me,

you really have to decide whether you want a proper career or not

and go into management.

And the word just put a little chill in my heart.

And then a job came up the he saw in the evening standard.

And it was display manager Topshop, a team of five people and a budget.

And he said, go for it.

And I did, thinking, I'm not going to get it, so I'll be okay.

I've said no before.

I'll say no again.

And then I went for the interview.
