Summary

On the June 14, 2018 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor-in-chief Peter Sciretta is joined by /Film weekend editor Brad Oman and senior writer Ben Pearson to talk about the latest news, including Comcast’s bid for 20th Century Fox, MoviePass, Ant-Man and The Wasp’s box office tracking, Star Wars Detours, Twin Peaks season 4, Doctor Sleep casting and a Raiders of the Lost Ark mystery.   You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (here is the RSS URL if you need it).   In The Mail Bag: Brayden G from Mineral Wells, Texas writes in: “With the release of the Wonder Woman 1984 photos today it had me thinking of something. I know there’s tons of theories of how Steve Trevor might be there alive and or a ghost. Mine isn’t really a theory but what if they treated him being back like Diana in the first film. Diana was filled with this sense of wonder and amazement to the world and had Trevor there to guide her through and help her adjust to the world. What if they flipped it in 1984 where Trevor is the one that’s shocked and amazed that he’s this far in the future and he needs Diana’s help. She has been alive this whole time as we know so seeing her take lead and adjust him to the times could be a pretty cool flip on the first film and a little throwback.”   In the News: Comcast Officially Puts in $65 Billion Bid for 21st Century Fox, Topping Disney’s Current Bid MoviePass Has Reached 3 Million Subscribers, Still Expects to Hit 5 Million Before 2019 A MoviePass Family Plan is on the Way ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ Box Office Tracking Predicts a $75 Million Opening Weekend Don’t Rule Out ‘Twin Peaks’ Season 4 Just Yet Could the Abandoned ‘Star Wars Detours’ Animated Series Finally Be Getting Released? Ewan McGregor to Star in ‘The Shining’ Sequel ‘Doctor Sleep’ ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’: What is Marion Ravenwood Holding When Indiana Jones Shows Up?   Other articles mentioned: New ‘Aquaman’ Images Offer First Look at Nicole Kidman as Queen Atlanna, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta   All the other stuff you need to know:   You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes.   /Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and television as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com.   You can subscribe to /Film Daily on iTunes, Google Play, Overcast, Spotify and all the popular podcast apps (RSS).   Please feel free to send your feedback, questions, comments and concerns to us at peter@slashfilm.com. 0:14.0

today's podcast is Slash Film Weekend Editor Brad Omen. Hey that's me. And

0:18.6

senior writer Ben Pearson. Hey, what's going on? Okay, guys, before we get into the news, yesterday we talked about the first photos from Wonder Woman

0:29.6

1984 and we were theorizing as to why Steve Trevor, Chris Pine, is, you know, back in the 1980s after, you know his

0:44.7

his fate in the first Wonder Woman film something I wanted to bring up during

0:50.3

the discussion but for whatever reason did not come up.

0:54.0

A reader brought up in a letter to us so I thought I'd read that before we get into the news.

1:00.0

And that is Braden G from Mineral Wells, Texas.

1:06.0

He says that Diana was filled with the sense of wonder and amazement

1:11.0

to the world from that first Wonder Woman film and basically he theorizes that Trevor

1:18.0

since Trevor was there to guide her in that film

1:21.0

maybe she will be the one guiding Trevor in 1984 and that will be kind of like

1:27.6

the flip of the fish out of water story that we saw in the first film.

1:33.0

Yeah, I think this is a good idea and I think my favorite parts of the first Wonder

1:36.7

Woman were when Diana is like wandering around and discovering ice cream and just like seeing

1:41.0

how happy and excited she was and like genuinely

1:44.4

thrilled at such a simple mundane thing that's like one of the most endearing

1:49.2

parts of that movie so the idea that she's going to be the one to guide Steve Trevor through a mall in the 1980s has a lot of potential I think.

1:57.0

Brad, what do you think about this one?

1:59.0

Yeah, I think it's a really cool idea because I mentioned it in the slack yesterday in our group and no one
