Welcome back to current affairs, our show about the cases of love gone fatally wrong that are in the news right now.

Today we have one update and one new case and you just have me, Jesse.

but she is being affected by the Los Angeles wildfires at this moment. And she will be back for our main episode this coming week. We start by revisiting one of the most chilling cases

in recent history, the Gilgo Beach murders,

a case that has haunted Long Island for more than a decade, took another turn as Rex Heuerman,

the accused serial killer, faces new charges in the death of a seventh victim.

Heurman now faces an additional charge of second-degree murder in connection with the death

of 24-year-old Valerie Mack. The charge comes nearly a year and a half after Hewerman was first

arrested in July of 2023 and named as a suspect in the decades-long investigation. Valerie Mack,

who worked as an escort at the time of her death, vanished in 2000.

Her skeletal remains were partially discovered that same year in Manorville, New York.

Over a decade later, in 2011, additional remains belonging to Mack were found, linking her

to the broader investigation into the Gilgo Beach murders.

Heurman appeared in Suffolk County Supreme Court on

Tuesday, December 17th, where he entered a plea of not guilty to Max murder. Addressing the court,

Heurman stated, Your Honor, I'm not guilty of any of these charges. He has consistently denied

involvement in any of the crimes he's accused of. This latest indictment is won in a

series of charges against Heerman, a former architect who was initially arrested in July of

2023. At the time, he was charged with the murders of four other women, Melissa Barthelamy,

Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brannard Barnes. These women all disappeared between 2007 and 2010.
