Summary

What did St. Ignatius mean when he counseled followers to “discern the spirits”? How do we do this? Bishop Barron unpacks the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and offers practical tips on how to discern God’s will in your life.

A listener asks how to discern whether God is calling him to marriage or the priesthood.

0:20.6

Hey Brandon, you know someday I'll actually get to that room where you are.

0:23.8

This is your office. I've never actually been there. This is the middle, this is in deep in the

0:27.9

capital. Yeah, yeah. So you're somewhere in Rohan, not with the riders of Rohan, but in the books

0:34.0

above your head. There's somebody I'd like to see all that in person. Listen, this past weekend,

0:38.2

you did another one of your big study programs. You've done several of these over the years. One on

0:43.9

David, the king, one on the mystery of God. Several of them on different topics, but the one

1:06.3

appropriately, but one of the most beautiful churches in LA and it fits about 1500 people. So we got a

1:11.4

big crowd filled the place. And I gave six talks on the sacraments, each one about 25, 30 minutes long.

1:19.2

You know, Brandon, over the years we've asked a parishes. If we were to do a study program,

1:24.2

what would you like us to do? What would be most helpful to you? Far and away, the most requested was

1:30.9

the seven sacraments. That's why we did it. And it was just a joy. Great crowd, great enthusiasm. We

1:37.4

work with spirit juice, as I often have, my production team there from Chicago. And they did a great

1:43.4

job and there was enthusiasm. I must say they are almost uniquely exhausting those experiences. You

1:48.8

know, when you're coming out in front of this big crowd and it's not just giving a talk, which you

1:53.9

know, okay, I'll give this talk and it'll be over, but it's a talk kind of for the ages because it's

1:57.5

being filmed. So you feel a special kind of pressure. When I finished, boy, I was just ready to
