Summary
The most recent meeting of the United States Council of Catholic Bishops ended with a prayer service and a sermon by Archbishop Peter Sartain, wherein his excellency referenced the mystical prayers of St. Catherine of Siena. In this episode, Bishop Robert Barron recounts this wonderful sermon and reflects on the use of the word "thee" in St. Catherine's prayers as well as the common prayers of the Church. Bishop explains that the purpose of this sort of language is to remind us of the intimacy we share in God through the Son. Sharing this personal relationship with Jesus is the real purpose of evangelization. The listener question wonders about the purpose of petitionary prayer.

| 0:20.6 | the US conference of Catholic bishops. Tell us a little bit about that. There was a surprising |
| 0:25.8 | moment for you in particular. Give us a rundown of how that meeting went. Yeah, it's good. |
| 0:30.9 | It's my second one now as a bishop. We gather in November in Baltimore at a hotel and almost |
| 0:37.0 | all the bishops, all the active bishops, a lot of the retired two come to that. It's a big |
| 0:41.1 | group, 300 or so. We go through a lot of business items in the course of about three days. |
| 0:47.3 | Also opportunities for discussion of some serious, more theoretical issues. We have meals |

| 1:10.2 | And then my own boss, our spaceship Gomez, out here as the vice president. I think the |
| 1:15.3 | surprise you're referring to is that I was elected chair of the committee on evangelization |
| 1:21.1 | and catacesis. So last summer, I was invited to run for this. And honestly, I really mean |
| 1:26.0 | that honestly, I was surprised and kind of taking it back. I just knew at this game, I was |
| 1:31.0 | at the time or day in a bishop less than a year. And so I was some hesitation to put my |
| 1:37.2 | name in, but I truly didn't think I'd be elected. I thought I'm too new in the conference. |
| 1:43.0 | But you know, people probably know me and they know my work. And so I was elected. And |
| 1:48.0 | it means I spend a year as kind of chair elect. And then next November, I'll actually take |
| 1:54.0 | over as the chair of that committee. Now, obviously, it's too early for you to lay out a game |
| 1:58.9 | plan of what you'd like to see happen or what would you like to see changed. But what are |
