Now, we've had a number of people come on to approach this ritual abuse issue from several different viewpoints.

What got you on the trail of this?

Well, it's quite interesting, Viz, because in 1996, I went and met Maliki Martin, sometimes pronounced Malachi Martin on the radio, who was a Catholic

writer in New York, who was a novelist and nonfiction writer.

He wrote primarily about the Catholic Church, and I went down there to collect some biographical

information on him for a book I was thinking about writing about Catholic priests.

Now, there again, this was 1996, and what Father Martin told me back then was that Cardinal Bernard Law of Boston, who was in charge of the Catholic Church up here in the Archdiocese of Boston,

was running a pedophile ring, and that some of these pedophiles were Satanists.

Now, in 1996, I just took that as a kind of ridiculous statement, and I did not believe Father Martin at the time.

Now, over the course of the next few years, I spoke to Father Martin about once a month until about six months before he died in 1999, and he would always bring this up, and I would always roll my eyes on the

phone, and I used to say to him, well, you know, I think you might just be getting crank letters.
