But first, it's the Hollywood News Caravan.

Even after an election where new, less militant board members won a slight majority of seats,

the Screen Actors Guild still hasn't budged in its staring contest with producers.

A contract still seems out of reach until next year at the earliest,

and the interested parties seem even more tired of dealing with the whole thing than we are of reporting on it.

Last week's town hall meeting with SAG's president

and executive director reportedly drew only 150 union members, far fewer than the 500-plus crowds

that packed recent SAG rallies. But at least there's some good news from the music industry for a change,

though not good news for the music industry.

A federal judge granted a new trial to Jamie Thomas, a Minnesota woman convicted of copyright violation in the nation's first file sharing trial.

Her crime?

Offering to share 24 songs on the Kazah file sharing network.

Her fine, $22,000 to be paid to six record companies. Mind you, Ms. Thomas only

offered the songs to other Kazai users. There was never any proof that any of them actually

took her up on the offer. The retrial was granted on the basis that the judge in the original

case gave incorrect instructions to the jury.
