It's 2016 and will Smith has been doing some soul searching. He's spent the last few months looking deep inside himself

and trying to figure out how he became the man he is.

Unsurprisingly, his search for meaning

let him right back to Dadio.

In Dadio's living room, the television is playing CNN on mute,

and Willard Carroll Smith the first is staring blankly at the screen.

His pale skin hangs off his shrinking frame.

Dadio doesn't have long to live, and Will knows this might be the last time he ever sees him.

He watches as his father lays in front of the TV with a cigarette in hand.

Will can't believe how frail his father has become.

He barely recognizes the domineering abusive monster who terrorized his childhood.

But for Will, seeing his father in this state

prompts a realization.

Dadio is just a man.

Nothing more.

Will softens, and then he decides to try something he's never done before, letting go.

Will watches his father a moment longer.

The cigarette is still trailing smoke from Dadio's hand.
