Open confusion at Open AI. From American public media, this is Marketplace Tech. I'm

Lily Dromale. To say this has been a chaotic few weeks for the folks at Open AI and for now former CEO Sam Altman would be an

understatement. To recap with the abridged version, on Friday the company's

board announced it to let Altman go, citing a lack of confidence in his ability to continue

leading open AI. Several staff members then resigned and hundreds of others threatened to do the

same if Altman wasn't reinstated as CEO. and hundreds of others threatened to do the same

if Altman wasn't reinstated as CEO.

That option is pretty much moot now that Microsoft,

a major open AI investor,

has hired Altman to lead a new AI research team there along with

former president Greg Brockman who resigned in solidarity. Reed Al Burgotti is

tech editor at Semifor and has been following the situation.

He explained what the Dramatic Ouster was really all about.

The disagreement was really behind AI safety.

Based on conversations that I've had, there's been a lot of reporting out there

about this.

Altman was really the driving force behind commercializing this technology.

And there are a lot of people who believe that this is potentially dangerous technology,

that AI could one day threaten you know, threaten all of humanity.

Ultimately, that's what this was about.
