This team had Super Bowl dreams back during the spring and summer, and it is Fallen Shorts. And we're going to talk about why the Jets are having such a bad season. And I think this show is necessary. I think it's necessary to discuss why the Jets are so bad because there is a perception out there that this is a total shock, that this was totally unforeseeable. I don't think that's true. There's also a perception out there that this team is the victim of bad luck and there's nothing more to it. Now, I think it's fair to say that when you're three and seven, you probably have had your share of bad luck just about a couple bad breaks in

close games the kicking situation obviously has not been good you know maybe you call that luck

maybe you don't but i think that the jet's record goes back to some fundamental flaws in the

way they have approached building this team and there are a a couple of things that really stand out to me.

Number one, look, this is something we talked about during the course of the offseason.

So I'm not coming in 10 weeks into the season and dropping something new,

dropping some new piece of analysis.

Over the course of the off season, the operative phrase we always used when discussing

this football team's potential was on paper.

Because on paper, the Jets looked like a tremendous football team.

And part of the reason they looked like a tremendous football team was they had a lot of really big name players.

And the reason these guys were big names is that in the past, they had produced at a very high level.

But many of these big names were guys in the past they had produced at a very high level. But many of these big

names were guys who were either 30 or just about to turn 30. And in the NFL, sometimes the aging

curve hits very quickly. And we discussed during the course of the off season over and over about,

so again, this is not a, does not be second guessing. These are things I was saying at the time. You can go back and listen to the shows that I had over the course of the off season. If these guys played at the level or close to the level they had performed at during the course of their careers, the Jets could be a really good football team. But if it did not happen, then this season could go quite badly.
