0:12.0	And I'm Patrick Miller. There's a quote attributed to
0:17.0	St Francis of Assisi that he probably didn't really say but it still has the
0:21.9	ring of truth, preach the gospel, and when necessary, use words.
0:26.7	Of course, Jesus did use words.
0:29.0	He built his ministry by traveling around Galilee and Judea,
0:32.6	announcing that God's kingdom had arrived on Earth as in heaven.
0:35.9	But not always.
0:37.4	In Mark 116 to 34, Jesus follows up his kingdom announcement
0:41.9	with actions. It's no accident that Mark puts three stories
0:45.9	side by side because each of them illustrates what happens when God's kingdom comes to earth.
0:51.5	So let's pick up the story in verse 16. As Jesus walked beside the
0:56.1	sea of Galilee he saw Simon that's going to be Peter later on and his brother
1:00.7	Peter casting a net into the lake for they were fishermen come follow me Jesus said and I will send you out to fish for people at once they left their nets and followed him so after this Jesus calls James and John in a very
1:14.9	similar fashion. So Jesus is preaching the gospel here, not with words but with
1:19.8	actions. And what is he telling us in his actions?
1:23.0	Well, he's telling us that when the kingdom of God comes, it gives us a sense of mission and
1:27.3	purpose in our lives.
1:29.3	One thing that I think we've lost in the 21st century is the idea of cosmic purpose.
1:34.8	When you evict God from your reality, you evict transcendent purpose and meetings.
1:40.6	Richard Dawkins, he put it this way. He said, there is at bottom no design, no purpose, no evil, no good, nothing
