Today, why IVF clinics in Alabama are shutting their doors and the wider risk to reproductive rights

across the US. Before we start I want to let you know that we discuss pregnancy loss in this

episode so please take a break if you need to and we'll give you the details of

We started trying after we got married in 2021 and we knew right away that we wanted to have children and then in May of 2022 we unfortunately lost our first attempt at

about eight weeks pregnant and then in September of 2022 I lost my second attempt and then in January

we lost our last pregnancy at around 10 and a half weeks pregnant and that one really took a

toll on us. We just really thought we were out of the weeds and had made it to the

other side and then right as we were told that we unfortunately lost that pregnancy as well.

Gabby Goydell and her husband Spencer moved to Alabama last year. They're excited to start a new

chapter in their lives and despite the problems they faced, they were determined to start a family together.

We were told by our doctor at that point that we really should try IVF and that would be the only

way to ensure that we want to go through this process and

that we would likely have to endure multiple miscarriages again if we try naturally.

I have been incredibly stressed. I just want this process to work out so much and then on top of it

they're pumping me full of a lot of hormones. The stress and the emotions have not been easy on me and also the pain. Right now I am on some painkillers just to be able to walk, which is hard.

In February, Alabama's Supreme Court made a judgment

that embryos are now legally classed as children.

For the people running IVF clinics, where embryos are selected and stored,

this potentially puts their work in jeopardy, and the biggest providers in the state have all decided to pause treatments
