Why is the U.S. government shut down?

Hello again, I'm Armin Alney, and this is To the Point from Public Radio International.

A daily look at the issues Americans care about most.

In a fiery speech today, President Obama said this to House Speaker John Boehner.

So my simple message today is, call a vote.

He said if Democrats and Republicans were allowed to vote together, they'd get the government

back in business.

Some moderate Republicans agree.

But 30 or 40 members from solid T-party districts

are saying, no way. Who are they? Are they part of what's dubbed a suicide caucus or the idealistic

future of a new anti-government Republican Party? Today's talking point, the FBI has busted

the Silk Road. First, here's the news.
