We hear a lot about milkweed and in fact many of my friends who cultivate

0:19.2

monarch butterflies talk about it a lot. You might even say that they're obsessed with it and for good reason.

0:24.9

But what is that reason?

0:27.3

What is the big deal about milkweed?

0:31.2

Let's talk about it. Every species of butterfly has a specific type of

0:36.9

plant that they prefer to reproduce on and continue that life cycle. A lot of butterflies have a group of plants that they will

1:40.0

because that's going to be the one that your native pollinators and butterflies will be attracted to.

1:45.6

For me, I use narrowleaf milkweed because that seems to be the one that's native to where I am in San Diego but there are a lot of different ones

1:54.4

common milkweed poke milkweed purple milkweed white milkweed antelope

1:59.8

horns milkweed really interesting ones.

2:02.8

The thing about it is that latex sap,

2:05.4

which some plants have, you don't want on you.
