0:14.7	learning what it looks like to follow Jesus by working our way through the gospel of
0:19.0	Luke. If you grew up in 90 subculture then you know all about veggie tales.
0:25.0	These were short kids films that taught tiny little Bible lessons.
0:28.8	And believe it or not, they're all actually pretty good today still.
0:32.2	But that's beside the point the company that
0:34.2	created Vegetales was called Big Ideas and it was led by a visionary Christian
0:39.8	Creator named Phil Vissure and by the late 90s big idea it wasn't just doing well. It was doing exceptionally well.
0:48.0	Between 1996 and 1999 their yearly revenue grew from 1.3 million to get this 44 million dollars a year and by
0:58.9	2003 they would be filing for bankruptcy.
1:03.0	Okay, so that's unexpected.
1:05.0	What happened?
1:06.0	Well, Phil Vissure, he's reflected a lot on these questions,
1:10.0	and he said that you might make a few assumptions about how that company got ran down into bankruptcy.
1:16.0	Maybe it was their massively over-budgeted film, Jonah,
1:20.0	or maybe it was the $11 million lawsuit that they lost. He said, look, these were all parts of the problem, but they weren't the main thing.
1:28.0	Phil Visser said the main problem was that he wanted to be great. He wanted big ideas to be great.
1:35.7	This is what he said. I wanted to build the next Disney and that desire for greatness
1:40.5	ultimately led him to make poor business decisions in the name of growth
1:44.9	that ultimately ended up sending the company crashing down.
1:49.4	If you go to a bookstore today, you will discover that we Americans are obsessed with being great.
