From day one, I always thought that I would be successful if people would sit around the

dinner table and say something like, guess what I heard on the radio today about squid

or octopus or about the universe or whatever, and that people would sit around the dinner

table and talk about something they heard as much as they would talk about the latest

sports scores.

That's Ira Flado.

As you probably know, Ira hosts the popular public radio show Science Friday.

He's one of the top science communicators in the United States and his reach goes around

the world.

Ira and I share a love of science and I think we're both passionate about infecting others

with that love.

That would be an infection to fight all other infections.

And we both have a special fund that's for asking naive, innocent, even dumb questions.

They come easily to me, but I think Ira has to work at it.

How long have you been doing science Friday?

Science Friday we will be starting our 30th year next year, but I have been doing science

since the first Earth Day, which was 70, April 22nd, 1970.
