Learn more: https://newdiscourses.com/2020/12/announcing-new-subscribers-only-podcast-james-lindsay/ On January 1 of this year, the New York Times told us that "Every Day is January 6 Now." That's obviously absurd, hyperreal, pseudo-real, but it's also an echo from the past. While many have rightly made the comparison between that farce and the Reichstag Fire perpetrated by the National Socialists in order to grab power, I was immediately put in mind of a paragraph from Herbert Marcuse's 1965 essay "Repressive Tolerance" (https://www.marcuse.org/herbert/publications/1960s/1965-repressive-tolerance-fulltext.html) when I saw that headline. "The whole post-fascist period is one of clear and present danger. Consequently, true pacification requires the withdrawal of tolerance before the deed, at the stage of communication in word, print, and picture. Such extreme suspension of the right of free speech and free assembly is indeed justified only if the whole of society is in extreme danger. I maintain that our society is in such an emergency situation, and that it has become the normal state of affairs," Marcuse wrote. Every day is January 6 now, and our entire society is in such an emergency situation, one of clear and present danger. In this episode of my subscribers-only podcast, James Lindsay OnlySubs, which I'm taking out from behind the paywall and making available to everyone, I walk you through the crucial paragraphs of Marcuse's essay in light of this ridiculous and ridiculously dangerous pronouncement. Join me to learn even more about how we find ourselves living in Marcuse's nightmarish neo-Marxist philosophy. -James Lindsay Support New Discourses: paypal.me/newdiscourses newdiscourses.locals.com/support patreon.com/newdiscourses subscribestar.com/newdiscourses youtube.com/channel/UC9K5PLkj0N_b9JTPdSRwPkg/join Website: https://newdiscourses.com Follow: facebook.com/newdiscourses twitter.com/NewDiscourses instagram.com/newdiscourses https://newdiscourses.locals.com pinterest.com/newdiscourses linkedin.com/company/newdiscourses minds.com/newdiscourses reddit.com/r/NewDiscourses Podcast: @newdiscourses podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/new-…es/id1499880546 bit.ly/NDGooglePodcasts open.spotify.com/show/0HfzDaXI5L4LnJQStFWgZp stitcher.com/podcast/new-discourses © 2022 New Discourses. podcast, and of course, as always, although I don't say hit or showed enough, you have

0:31.9

my gratitude for your support. I'm recording this, you are not listening to this on, but

0:40.4

I am recording this on January 7th, which is to say January 6th again, because yesterday

0:49.2

was January 6th, and the day before that was January 6th, and the day before that was

0:54.7

January 6th. And according to the New York Times, as they published on the first of January

0:58.3

this year, every day since January 6th of last year is January 6th. Every day is January 6th,

1:07.7

now that's the headline from the New York Times. Every day is January 6th. And of course, what's

1:14.5

their point? Their point is that that's a day, the preposterous pseudo reality that the left is

1:21.3

trying to spin here, the Democrats are trying to spin here, every day is now a day that we

1:26.5

have to reckon with the fact that Trumpers allegedly tried to pull an insurrection and overthrow

1:32.7

our democracy, or of course, our democracy for left. Oids is their bid for communism and domination.

1:40.5

But I just want to connect a dot for you. You've heard this before, if you're a new discourses

1:44.3

podcast listener, what you probably are, you have to understand that repressive tolerance from

1:51.4

Herbert Marcusa, I put this on Twitter, you probably knew this was coming. Repressive tolerance

1:55.9

from 1965 by Herbert Marcusa is that headline. It has come to life. So I'm just going to read a

2:02.3

little piece of repressive tolerance to you and remind you of what it says so that you can understand

2:07.7

that when the New York Times publishes an article with the headline, every day is January 6th,

2:13.5

now given what preposterous things they want to believe about January 6th. You can see where

2:19.5

this comes from because I keep trying to help people. We live in the logic of Herbert Marcusa's

2:23.6

philosophy from the 1960s. In particular, we live under the logic of repressive tolerance.
