For a long time, musician, writer and guardian sound designer Rudy Zagadlo, had a secret.

I wouldn't talk about it at all, and I would conceal the fact that I suffered, if you like,

from it.

Unless I was speaking to a sort of fellow sufferer.

There were very few people he ever told,

and even less he would show. I think I wore a hat from like my early

to mid-20s for a solid 10 years in public and I was only comfortable without it in the company of people like my

family and very close friends even that I mean it started to get really bad.

But then Rudy went on a trip to try and fix his secret and wrote about his experience for millions of people to read and in exposing himself

found a new kind of freedom.

I mean the discomfort came from trying to perpetuate the illusion that I might have

hair underneath a hat. Hair loss affects a lot of people and while balding men often end up as the butt of jokes

it can also be really upsetting.

I've always felt a combination of good humor and trepidation and gloom about it.
