Well, thank you. I'm very glad to be here. I've never been to this university before. I've never even been to Arizona before.

So I'm very excited. So the title of the talk is the motives for the incarnation, why did God become man?

We will be exploring Christology, the science of Christ.

To pave the way for addressing the topic,

I will first discuss what it means to say that God is man in the first place.

Only after having established that will I go on to address the main question.

Perhaps you won't be surprised to hear me say that often enough, I will be sharing with you

some of the insights of St. Thomas Aquinas.

This is the Thomistic Institute, after all.

But that's not the only reason.

I've studied St. Thomas a lot on this particular topic,

and I have come to believe that his ideas are a very good source of insight.

But that's not to say that we should favor his ideas as opposed to everyone else's.

Aquinas strives for truth,

not originality,

and much of the strength of his approach

lies in his reliance on

scripture, church authority,

and the many theologians who preceded him.
