podcast for friday august 29 2005 and today will be better than yesterday i'm buster

only working from my home in montana taylor schwenink is working from the beautiful studio that he has found for himself in Bristol, Connecticut at ESPN. Taylor, how you doing this day? I'm doing great, Buster. It's a beautiful fall day in Connecticut. I'm down here in the pod cave. Can't wait to emerge. And, you know, we're looking down on the

barrel of Labor Day weekend. What could be better? Nice. I thought of you, we just got done our

prep call for Sunday night baseball. This weekend we'll get the Atlanta Braves against the

Philadelphia Phillies. We don't know for sure. Brian Sitker is going to be back as the Braves manager.

And Alex Fast, who works on our Sunday night

broadcast and I were texting back and forth. He's a huge Orioles fan. And he was asking me

the question, which of those two jobs is more attractive? The Braves or the Orioles going forward

after a season in which they both were disappointing. Ooh, that's a great question. I think Baltimore has the, I might give them a little more of a talent upside and like maybe

they are a little more prepared to win next season.

But if you're a prospective manager, you have to like the organizational, just the organization.

Yeah, stability is a great word for it in Atlanta.

Yeah.

Alex Anthopoulos is under contract through like 2030, 2001,

where on the other hand, you just don't know the direction of the Orioles franchise

and what they're going to do and whether or not they're going to spend money.

So that was my answer.

And Alex's response as New Orleans fan was,

how dare you? When I said, I thought it was Atlanta just because you know what direction they're going.

All right. On the podcast today, Jorge Castillo joins us. We have a conversation about the surging Mets,

the Phillies, whether or not the Phillies can be caught in the National League East with the Mets. We're calling up Jonah Tong to join Nolan McLean. We're going to be talking with Jane Levy. The author, who of course did the books on Sandy Kofax, on Mickey Mantle, on Babe Ruth. She's got a new book coming out and she's going to talk to us about that.
