As pressure mounts on Israel to call a ceasefire, the question is how much will it cost to rebuild Gaza?

Yes, let's start with a war in Gaza. Israel faces growing international pressure

over an airstrike which killed seven aid workers in the strip. And a joint World Bank UN report estimates the cost to rebuild Gaza to be in the region of $18 billion.

Sultan Barracat is a professor of public policy at Hamad bin Khalifa University in Doha and he says there

are two ways the rebuild could be funded.

The just way obviously should be reparation money from Israel and its main allies who have encouraged and supported its war

and the totally needless destruction.

I mean this is very important I think to emphasize that a lot of the destruction that took

place they could have achieved

their objective without doing it.

It was absolutely unnecessary to knock down so many houses in order to look for individuals or to fight street wars in Gaza.

But the most likely I'm afraid is that Israel will brush it aside and the United States would put pressure on some of the Arab states to come up with the money.

And of course the European Union given the guilt feeling they have towards the whole saga of the know the Israelis Palestinian conflict will make certain some

donations the World Bank has also remarked 80 million dollars that went to World Food Program.

As usual, they will probably hold a meeting

for donors, potential donors.

But the challenge, I think, is again,

it comes to who's going to actually come up with the money and spend in Gaza.
