Summary

On the Gist, President Trump made a phone call and blew apart the life of a private citizen.  And, today in Remembrances of Things Trump: teleprompter stumble. In the interview, it's part one of a conversation with David Shor, a researcher and consultant for democratic politicians. Shor discusses the value trade-offs parties have to make in order to win an election. From his analysis, he explains that when a political party's values are out of sync with what a median voter believes, issues inevitably arise at the polls. He stresses that it's not just the messaging, it's about how it is disseminated and used to persuade. It's Monday, January 4th, 2021, from Slater to the Gist I, Mike Pesca. The leaked audio

0:43.0

of Donald Trump railing at Georgia election officials is one of those documents of which

0:47.7

the provenance says so much. Originally, I assumed maybe you did too. It was the Georgians

0:53.8

who leaked it. The Georgians on the receiving end of the president's hour long, let's

1:23.4

sound like he was talking through speakers as much as they were. But I think it's very

1:27.2

important to know who leaked it because then we could begin to understand Trump and his

1:32.8

motives. Was Trump being delusional because he is delusional? Or was he being delusional

1:40.4

as strategy? Was he being tactically delusional? These are the sorts of arguments after all

1:46.3

that he would put forth before a crowd of cheering masses, including one of the arguments

1:52.1

would be that you, you cheering masses, you mean that I couldn't lose. They say it's

not possible to have lost your job. And I could tell you by our rallies, I could tell
