Summary

On this episode of The Total Soccer Show...

Joe Lowery is back on the show to help Taylor determine the 10 Americans who had the "best" weekends in soccer. The big names (Dest, Pulisic, Reyna) are all in there, as are some you might not have expected (Johannsson, Soto) and some domestic players who are tearing it up in MLS, including Daryl Dike, Walker Zimmerman (aka Zimm Walkerman), and many more.

1:07:36 - We preview the USL Championship Final between the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Phoenix Rising. How do both teams like to set up, what are the most obvious strengths and weakness of each time, and how might it all play out? We do our best to provide answers.

Hello,

0:02.0

Hello, everybody, and welcome to the Total Soccer show.

0:24.1

My name is Taylor Rockwell, and joining me today to talk about Americans who had a good weekend.

0:29.2

It's Mr. Joe Lowry.

0:30.3

Hello, Joe.

0:31.3

Hello, Taylor.

0:32.1

Thank you so much for having me on.

0:33.4

I appreciate it.

0:34.1

Yeah, man.

0:34.6

Thank you for being here.

0:35.5

We have not talked very much about Americans abroad or domestic in a while. We do have some international games coming up, which is very exciting. The U.S. men's national team will be back in action. I think Joe will be helping me preview and review those games. But for now, we're going to take a look at some Americans who had a good weekend. As I said, we're also going to preview the USL championship final a little bit later on in the show. Right now, I tweeted this out the other day, and I just wanted to kind of stick to it, that I would like to extend the opportunity for people who come on the Total Soccer show to have an opportunity to talk about Darrell however much or however little they want to.

1:12.0

And that's what I would like to do now is my clunky way of getting to that because I know

1:18.0

Darrell thought incredibly highly of Joe Lowry. I will also note that the reason why I first

1:23.3

interacted with Joe is because of Darrell. I think he messaged me or showed me something Joe had

1:27.2

written and it was very tactical and I think he messaged me or showed me something Joe had written,

1:46.3

and it was very tactical, and I think it featured advanced stats, and it hurt my head a little bit, but I understood it was smart, and I understood it was good. So, yeah, I credit Daryl with, with introducing me to the man I'm speaking to now. So, Joe, it's good to talk to you. Yeah, and it's, I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to say a few things about Darrell because he's, he was a very, very cool guy and someone that I'm incredibly indebted

1:52.8

to for so many different reasons.

1:54.4

But I think the one thing that I really did want to talk about is almost what you just

1:57.7

said is, is Darrell kind of reading that story and i don't know the

2:01.6

background of the situation i've never heard that before i didn't know how you guys first interacted

2:05.9

with me or that that's almost too far away now to remember but the reason why i think he might

2:11.7

have picked up that story and you might have had a similar affinity for it is because i watch soccer and i think about soccer and the way that I do in that sort of tactic-tactic-y, tactically, analytically kind of way, because that's how you guys do it. That's how Daryl did it. And I think that has been just so incredibly formative for me and has shaped how I view soccer and even what I'm doing now. Like I wouldn't be doing this. We wouldn't be talking right now or I wouldn't be watching an obscene number of soccer games a weekend and really enjoying it 99, 95% of the time. I wouldn't be doing any of those things without Daryl Grove. And so I just, I've been thinking about that a lot recently, as I'm sure a lot of listeners out there have. And I know, as you have Taylor, I've been thinking a lot about Daryl and about all of the things that have happened and just his passing and how hard that's been for you and for his family and for so many of us who even were just barely touched by him. And I just keep coming back to the fact that I'm thankful for him. I'm thankful for his influence in my life and for the person that he was. So that's really what I wanted to say, and I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to come on here and say some of those things. Because I've tweeted them and I've thought them, but I think this is the most meaningful place where I can share them. Well, thank you. And I'm sure he would appreciate that.
