There are the tag numbers, franchise and transition, all in the millions.

Hey, and I did the thing over the weekend where I looked at the franchise tag numbers

and the top of the market at the various positions.

It really is off.

We talked about that yesterday.

273 for the receiver and 40 million for George, for the top of the market.

So Pickens is getting 27.3 million under the franchise tag this year, barring a long-term deal.

Top of the market's 40, and it may go higher than that when Jackson Smith and Jigba signs his second contract.

Some of them, some of them are okay.

They're fairly in line with the top of the market.

Some of them are actually above the top of the market, like for linebackers, because I think you get some,

and they have a weird calculation of who's an edge rusher, who's a linebacker. I think you get some and they have a weird calculation of

who's an edge rusher who's a linebacker I think you get some edge rushers who get thrown into

the calculation for linebacker and also it's a vestige of what the this is such a weird thing

and I'm going to try to explain how they calculated now. It used to be pre-2011.

The franchise tag was determined by the average of the five highest cap numbers at the position in the prior year.

So if you're a quarterback, it would have been the five highest cap numbers for

quarterbacks the prior year. The average of that is the franchise tag. Now, is that perfect? No,

because you got a lot of cash over cap going on and some of the best players, their cap numbers

aren't going to be that high. And by the time their cap numbers are high, they get cut or they get restructured.

And the cap numbers are never as big as they need to be.

But still, that's better than what they do now.
