I don't like how people talk about shadow functions.

Yes.

When was the first time that you realized that you were not aware of everything going on inside of your mind?

Hmm.

The first time I was aware that I noticed that I was not aware of everything going on in my mind.

Correct.

Or you realized that there was material inside of your mind that snuck up on you or that you were not fully conscious of everything inside of you.

I think it was when I gained theory of mind.

That early, huh?

I think I remember walking at my grandparents' house. Maybe I was like seven or eight on this like on this rock wall behind their house. My cousins were over. It was a big family event or something. There were a lot of people around, but I had wandered off from play by myself. And I was walking along this wall and I all of a sudden had this perspective, like this moment of realization, I was thinking about my cousin Amanda, who was like three months

older than me. And I had this realization that her experience was different than my experience.

Like I had this moment where I went, wait a minute, I'm having a unique experience that's just mine,

that I'm the only one that has this perspective. I'm the only one

that can see through my own eyes. I didn't have language or words that I can remember,

but I remember the sense of knowing. I remember this so clearly. Even now, I reflect on it.

And I just, I remember thinking, that means I have a unique perspective of the world.

I have a unique understanding of things and not everybody's like me.

That's really interesting.
