When You Inherit Dysfunction: Knowing God’s Voice, Daily Bible Study, Daily Devotional In this episode, Rachael explores the story of King Josiah, a biblical figure who inherited a broken nation steeped in idolatry and corruption. She emphasizes the importance of humility, action, and obedience in the face of inherited dysfunction. Josiah's reforms serve as a model for modern believers, encouraging them to confront the 'high places' or idols in their lives and to remain faithful even when the outcome seems bleak. Obedience is about honoring God, not controlling outcomes. Josiah's reforms were a response to the rediscovery of God's Word. High places in our lives represent modern idols we must confront. One heart responding to God can impact generations. Faithfulness is more important than visible success. Revival begins with a return to Scripture. Josiah's actions were bold and public, setting an example. You can choose a different path than your ancestors. God sees and honors individual acts of obedience. Sound bites "You can be the one that says it stops here." "What are the high places in our lives?" "Your obedience is never wasted." Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

0:12.8

Have you ever felt like you were handed a broken situation left to deal with the fallout?

0:18.8

For me, that was the reality of my family that I grew up in, where

0:23.2

literally there was patterns of dysfunction that went back generations. Maybe for you that's in

0:28.6

your workplace where you're dealing with the mistakes of those that came before you or even

0:32.6

toxic leadership. It can be overwhelming to feel like you have to pick up the pieces when the damage that was done

0:39.3

wasn't by you. That's actually what we're going to be talking about today because that's what

0:44.1

King Josiah faced. We talked about it a little bit yesterday, but I really want to dive into

0:48.5

his story today. Essentially, King Josiah inherited a nation that was deeply entrenched in

0:53.9

idolatry and corruption

0:55.4

and the neglect of God's word. Does that sound familiar? Yet, instead of giving in to things like

1:03.8

despair or even being apathetic towards it, Josiah responded in a way that I believe is an

1:09.4

example for us today, humility and action.

1:14.0

And so the story of Josiah shows us what it looks like to be faithful in the middle of brokenness

1:19.8

and when it looks like to take responsibility, even when that brokenness isn't your fault.

1:24.2

So I'm going to go ahead and read Second Kings 22 versus 15 through 20. And I know we touched

1:29.9

lightly on this in yesterday's episode, but I really want to dive into Josiah's aspect in the

1:35.6

story because the reality is King Josiah is one of those kings in Israel's history that we

1:42.2

don't actually know a lot about. We don't spend a lot of time

1:45.8

talking about him. Scripture says that he was the most faithful king of Israel. If I were to ask you,

1:52.3

who was the most faithful king of Israel? Honestly, if you were to ask me that question, I would have said

1:56.7

King David or King Solomon or even King Hezekiah, one of my personal favorites. But no, scripture says
