Summary

We always say that character comes before the curriculum, but that can be easier said than done.  In the day to day, it can be a real struggle to actually lay down the math or reading to deal with the character issues in our kids.  But what if we saw character training for what it REALLY is? In today's podcast, I will be sharing a big picture perspective with a biblical foundation to encourage you to take the time to reach the hearts of your children! One thing I forgot to mention in the podcast is that as our kids exhibit behavior that indicates a need for character training, it's so important to find our first (especially if they are younger) if there is a need that isn't being met: are they hungry, thirsty, tired? Might we be over scheduling our family life, schooling or activities?  This isn't about giving our kids excuses for misbehaving, but about being responsible as parents to be fair and just in our actions. theunhurriedhomeschooler.thinkific.com/ (Mentoring Course) The Unhurried Homeschooler on Amazon Florida Parent Educators Association-Homeschool Convention May 23-25, 2019 Scriptures mentioned in the podcast: Luke 6:39, 40 Ephesians 6 2 Corin. 10:3-5 Deut 11:16-21

our homeschooling days, it can be challenging to stop and deal with the many, countless

character issues that can come up as we're homeschooling our kids.

So before I dive into that topic, though, I just want to welcome you.

If you're looking for a good dose of encouragement,

0:55.8

you are in the right place because encouraging homeschooling moms is one of my favorite,

1:01.3

favorite things to do. I love the heart of homeschooling moms. I love, love, love them.

1:08.1

So welcome. I'm glad you're here. Before I dive into the topic, I want to

1:14.8

mention that enrollment is open for my online mentoring course. You know, as I was homeschooling

1:21.1

our kids, especially in the early years, I longed for someone to walk alongside of me

1:27.1

and to help me keep perspective, you know,

1:30.1

as we're doing the day-to-day with our kids, that it can be so easy to get buried in the details

1:35.0

and lose some of that big picture perspective that we really, really need in order to prioritize

1:41.4

our days in a way that honors God and in a way that's best for our families.

1:47.3

God was gracious to me and he sent people into my life at certain points and for just short

little spurts and I appreciated that so much. But the idea of having a mentor is not a new

idea. It is a biblical principle. In Titus 2, it talks about
