0:17.0	Hi friends, I have a question for you. Was the Grand Canyon carved into the earth
0:21.0	or did the earth rise up around it to form the walls? The answer is both.
0:28.0	On one hand, the shifting titanic plates cause the earth to rise around the canyon.
0:33.4	And on the other hand, the flow of water
0:35.5	caused the canyon to carve between the rising earth.
0:38.7	And the really cool thing about this phenomenon
0:41.0	is that you can visit the Green Canyon and see the unseen world
0:45.6	beneath us. Now we know that the earth beneath our houses and streets has layers
0:51.1	that reveal its age and its wonder, but in the Grand Canyon you can actually
0:56.0	see those layers stacked one on top of another.
1:00.1	And when you do, you can't help but contemplate the mystery and the history.
1:05.0	The age of the earth as compared to our incredibly finite timeline is on full demonstration in the canyon.
1:12.0	You look out and you see with your own eyes
1:14.4	millennia of wind and water and sediment and consider the vastness and magnitude
1:19.9	of a world that existed long before we were here
1:23.2	and will likely continue to exist long after we depart.
1:27.8	And yet the whole experience is not foreboding, it's not disheartening, but it's inspiring, contemplative, even exciting.
1:36.0	Who could have imagined something so brilliantly beautiful?
1:40.2	Who could know exactly when and how it happened?
