Just steadied her breath as she saw the buck, she was behind a fallen log dug deep into

the blanket of snow that lay across the ground.

She brought her rifle up to her shoulder and rested it on her cover, moving ever so slowly

as to not startle the buck in the clearing.

She felt the wind blow her hair behind her head.

She had positioned herself downhill of the animal as to not give away her position with

her scent.

The buck had broken from the herd, which were moving through the dense woods past the

clearing.

All of whom were most likely searching for water or any other source of food that hadn't

been claimed by the snow.

A three day long blizzard had passed a few days ago and Jess knew the animals would need

to drink and eat, just like her and Frank.

Their supplies had been cut short by the unexpected storm and they needed more desperately.

Normally Jess wouldn't be hunting alone in such a harsh environment, however that was

their only option as Frank had become ill.

While it wasn't life threatening, he certainly wasn't in any position to be doing anything

in the bitter cold, much less hunting.

Jess didn't mind, helping her husband was something she always prided herself in doing.

Jess peered through her scope and steadied her aim on the buck's body just over where
