What's the end game for the attack on Libya?

Hello again, I'm Orinalny, and this is To the Point from Public Radio International.

A daily look at the issues Americans care about most.

After weeks of backing away from military action, the Obama administration suddenly signed on to the UN effort to protect civilians in Libya. Today, the U.S. commanding general Carter Ham says that's still the mission and that the coalition is not supporting forces opposed to Muammar Gaddafi. But what is the ultimate goal? Is it to topple Gaddafi? Can the

rebels do that alone? And what if he's able to hold on to power? What's the role of the Arab League,

Britain, and France? And is the administration itself divided? We'll hear much more today.

On reporters' notebook later on, would a $35 billion merger be good news or bad news for cell phone users?

Obama finally done the right thing by joining a

UN coalition against Muammar Gaddafi, are the coalition's objectives clear? Will the Arab world

see this as another Western effort to guarantee oil supplies? Coalition forces say their goal is to

protect Libyan civilians against Muammar Gaddafi's forces, and commanding General Carter Ham says

that progress is being made.

Air attacks have succeeded in stopping regime ground forces from advancing to Benghazi, and we are

now seeing ground forces moving southward from Benghazi.

Again, that is the current commander of the coalition effort.
