I've been fascinated by cold cases, and in particular those involving a missing person, since I was a child.

There is something so profoundly mysterious about somebody just vanishing.

So many times, I've wished that I could have time traveled to the time and location where the person disappeared.

To see what really happened to them at that very last moment.

I get excited when I hear about a cold case being resolved.

But most of the time, this happens as a result of DNA comparisons or other physical evidence that gets reexamined with the help of advanced forensic technologies.

In this case, there is no physical evidence.

There is no body, no crime scene, and nobody can even know for certain that a crime occurred.

In 2008, two homes were searched and analyzed.

The home Alyssa last lived in, and the one micens Sarah had been living since.

Luminol was used to detect any bodily fluids on the ground, cadaver dogs were brought in, and both backyards were scrutinized.

None of this has yielded any physical evidence relating to a murder.
