This is the place where we bring you just the facts.

1:15.0

And where we read all the news and read between the lines so you don't have to.

1:18.2

On this July 2nd, what some of our founders, or one significant of the American founders, believe to be the true Independence Day.

1:27.2

I knew that was coming.

1:28.6

I feel like this is one of your favorite historical facts to throw out.

1:33.3

Yeah, this is my favorite fact that today in 1776 was the day that the Continental Congress

1:38.5

actually voted for independence.

1:41.3

And the reason I bring this up is because one, John Adams, I'm a fan of John Adams, like in the kind of retrospective of presidents. Of course, there was the HBO series based on the original book biography on John Adams. And if you're interested in the origins of this country, John Adams played a extremely influential role, even though he was our first vice president. And one of the things that he also gave us there was like the best quote saying, like, this is the most useless job that man has ever created. Of course, he would go on to, you know, be our first one-term president as well. The point of all this is Jen Adams for years was like, you know, July 2nd is our Independence Day. And he was like trying to make July 2nd happen. And it never really took. It never took because ultimately July 4th was the day the

2:20.4

documents were ready. The declaration actually wasn't ready on July 2nd. They voted on July 2nd,

2:24.4

but it took them a while to dry it up, you know, literally with a pen, right, to write it up.

2:28.2

And so July 4th is when the actual document was ready. So he's like, you know, technically July

2:32.9

seconds are Independence Day. And he's like, you know, technically July 2nd's our Independence Day.

2:35.3

And he apparently wouldn't celebrate July 4th. He would celebrate independence on his own July 2nd,

2:40.8

while the rest of the country would celebrate July 4th. I like his stubbornness, right? His persistence.

2:46.3

I don't care what everyone else does. I don't care. Apparently he would turn down.

2:51.3

I mean, listen, the guy would go on to be vice president, president.
