Joining me on the podcast today is Pam Storm. And Pam is in a unique position where she owns a regular traditional rental and she also owns a vacation rental. And I want to talk to her today

0:22.8

about the differences and see if we can figure out if it's better to own a vacation rental or

0:28.3

a regular rental. Pam, welcome to the show. Why don't we start with you just telling us a little bit

0:34.0

about yourself and what got you interested in owning a rental property?

0:38.8

Great, Dan. And thanks for having me on today. Sure. Yeah, so I think my path is a little

0:45.7

non-traditional. I started my career as a CPA. And so I think I always knew that this was a wise move to have rental homes. But I didn't

0:57.7

really get into it until 2010 is when I got my first rental. And then in 2012, I got another.

1:38.4

1:47.7

rental in 2010, that's the vacation rental, the short-term one. And then two years later in 2012

1:54.9

was when we got a longer-term one that we still have in our portfolio. All right. So let me cut right to the chase.

2:02.5

What's better, the vacation rental or the regular rental? You know, I hate to say this.

2:09.8

2:28.6

The goal on the longer term home was to fund our son's college education. And we did have a few in between that we meant

2:38.0

to hold forever. They had nice appreciation and we sold them. I don't know if that's the right

2:44.2

move or not, but it's sort of what we did at the time. So I'd say that both are suiting our purposes.
