Thinkers as divergent as the Big Neo Brzinsky in the United States and the

Marxist historian Eric Hobbsbaum in the United Kingdom have referred to the

20th century is the century of meggadeth, the bloody 20th century that now stands as such a hallmark of war in terms of human history

just at the time that many humans believed that the species was coming of moral age.

It's hard to come to grasp with the 20th century. That's a very humbling

realization when after all we're just in the first several years of the 21st century. We need help.

And some of that help now comes in the form of a book entitled

Bloodlands Europe between Hitler and Stalin by historian Timothy Snyder is professor of history at Yale University. He specializes in the history of Central and Eastern Europe.

He's the author of the new book, Bloodlands,

Europe between Hitler and Stalin.

He received his doctorate from the University of Oxford in 1997

where he was a British Marshall Scholar.
