Open with me, please, to the gospel account of John, the 13th chapter, John 13.

We've been on this for some weeks now, and our text is the New Testament commandment that Jesus gave us in John 13.

And we're talking about what love does.

What love does.

John 13 and 34, Jesus said, A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another as I have loved you.

Now, you might say, well, how is that a new commandment?

Because in the Old Testament, he told them to love your neighbor as yourself.

That's not what he said.

He said, you love one another.

Now, one another refers to your fellow Christian, your brother, your sister in the Lord.

And you do it not just as yourself, you love them the way Christ loves you.

That requires the new birth and the love of God being shed abroad in your heart by the Holy Spirit.

Said out loud, I have this love inside me.

I can and I do love others as Jesus loves me.

Now if we're not doing it,

we're disobedient to the New Testament

commandment. Don't argue with what he said.

Don't say, well, I don't know that I can.

Well, that's Jesus. Well, we all fall short.

Excuses are not the way to go on this.

You want to go with faith.

If he says, do it.
