legends in drag queenery globally, perhaps second only to RuPaul. Courtney Act is the character,

the pseudonym of Shane Genick. Shane is really interesting, fascinating human being.

You know, you probably know Courtney as Australia's most popular drag queen

and singer and television personality.

Courtney came to prominence.

You may have forgotten on Australian Idol,

the Australian version of Pop Idol, American Idol and so on, in 2003,

she was on Rupall's Drag Race in 2014. She's done an enormous amount of television hosting.

She made it big in the United Kingdom in 2018 when she was on Celebrity Big Brother, and she won. She won

the season. And she really revolutionized and changed people's ideas about, I suppose,

gender and sexuality and gay people and drag queens and all the rest of it. Through some of her

sort of confronting interactions with some of the other contestants in the Big Brother household.

She released a soul for Eurovision for the Eurovision final in 2018, came in fourth place.

She was on Dancing with the Stars in Australia.

Look, to try to summarize Courtney's role by reciting a list of achievements is invariably

going to be unsuccessful because Courtney looms so large in Australian public life and means so much

the LGBTQI plus community. But who is the person behind Courtney? Who is this young Queenslander named Shane Genick?

Shane is very thoughtful. I have a lot of respect for him as not just a performer and a boundary

pusher, but as someone who wants to think about what gender is and what sex is, in both meanings of that word, and what sexuality is.

And while we're all sort of chattering on the sidelines about transgender rights and
