We will never create a turning point USA. We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries destroyed lives. And we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country. That's why we are here. Thank you everybody. Thank you. That's quite the outfit. Wow. Great to be here. Thank you. I first want to thank GCU's administration for helping make this happen. 2:00.0

We speak at a lot of places. We have been treated very well here. Thank you. And also thanks to our turning point USA chapter here on campus. They have worked very hard to help make this happen. And so thank you guys and very important. And also thank you all for coming out tonight. It's awesome. I live here in Arizona not too far away. So not too bad of a commute. People always try to pin me down. They say, Charlie, are you an ASU guy or you a guy? I would say, if I had to choose it would be more like GCU. Then you would say,

2:30.0

I get so much hate when I say that. And I don't care. And so it's great to be here. Kind of the most fun part about this is when we get to do questions, we get to talk and we get to see where we disagree or we agree. So we'll do that in a little bit. I thought it would be helpful though tonight to kind of go through how people identify philosophically and through a worldview. I know a lot of you are Christians. I know this is a Christian school. I know not all of you are Christians. And so we can have a discussion about that. But there's all these labels in

3:00.0

terms that are thrown out. And you can feel free to disagree with any, you know, how I'm doing these descriptions. But they're approximately right. It's just basic. It's in a general direction. And it's kind of four different categories. And you hear these words thrown around a lot. Liberal, libertarian, conservative, leftist, italitarian. What are those words actually mean? Well, I'm going to do the best job I possibly can to fairly talk about that. And I'll tell you when I'm not being, I guess I'm always being fair when I'm being brutally honest, honestly, about some of those descriptions. And then you

3:30.0

can decide, you know, what category you fall into because, you know, I know a lot of you here tonight probably pick and choose from a lot of different political ideologies and philosophies. I prefer the term worldview. Honestly, I think that's a better way to look at it. I would encourage all of you always to have a Christian and biblical worldview. When you look through all things, we can talk about what that actually means and how that impacts politics. There is kind of a movement to try to get Christians not involved in these things at all. I think that's a huge mistake. I think we as Christians should be more involved than ever in the public square.

4:00.0

And more involved than ever in the issues of what is right and wrong and good and evil and kind of how we orient our entire society. Because absent an objective moral standard, then who's to say a line is crooked if you don't have a straight line to compare it to a CS Lewis would say. So let's go through the four different categories because they're kind of interchangeably talked about all the time. The first of which is a leftist. I would say that leftist today. It's kind of always a changing moving target. Very much a totalitarian. Or someone that's a

4:30.0

little bit more important to me than that would want to impose things on a certain kind of group of people. I'll give you some examples of that. The second is a liberal. There are differences between liberals and leftists. And I'll tell you kind of how I view that. And then libertarians. I'm sure we have some libertarians here tonight. Couple. Three. Okay. Good. You know, it's very interesting. When we first started turning point USA. And I used to ask, hey, how many libertarians are out there? People would always like a plot and, you know,

5:00.0

how many libertarians know? I have a theory as to why. And then of course the fourth category of conservative. So let's go through the four as I see it. Okay. So leftists as today. And by the way, if I were to give this speech 10 years ago, I would describe a leftist a little bit differently than I would today. But leftists more than anything else. I would say they have a very specific view of the country, view of the world. They're unapologetic about one and use political power to effectuate that in modern America. Hyper focused on race. Hyper focused.

5:30.0

Hyper focused on trying to redesign society. And also rather indifferent towards not indifferent hostile towards American history. The American founding western civilization. Very outspoken about what they would see as systemic injustices. Now if I had a leftist in front of me, I don't think they could disagree with what I just said, right? That is basically their song sheet saying America is sexist. It's racist is xenophobic. It's homophobic. We were actually founded in 1619. Not 1776. You know, if you're white, you will be

6:00.0

in a white privilege that we need to kind of invert society and try to have reparations and massive amounts of governmental power to try to write the wrongs of things that happen a long time ago. I think that's a probably a fair way to say it. Now how that actually plays itself out. Very interesting. So I would say that kind of, let me just be very clear trying to use that kind of force and that kind of power in that upside down way. I think a sinister and evil and wrong. That's my kind of commentary that you guys can feel for to disagree. The second of which are liberals. Now liberals are different than leftists.

6:30.0

They have a lot in common, by the way. Liberals will see things similarly, but they'll stop short of how willing they are to actually use government power. A great example is like one of the last liberals in America, Alan Dershowitz, right? Alan Dershowitz is pro-abortion. He's generally very relaxed and immigration. But he still has an honest, you know, kind of moral fiber where he'll go and defend people for their right to speak to speak. Now that's a very important distinction between leftists and liberals is the issue of speech.

7:00.0

The right speech can be hostile because you say something offensive. You're a leftist. If you think speech is necessary towards a free society and you say get over it because you hear something offensive, you're not a leftist. You might be one of the other three categories. The other three categories have at least a higher than not value on believing that we as human beings are the speaking beings. And from a Christian biblical worldview were made in the image of God. God's spoken to existence in the beginning was the word, the word was God and the word became flesh, that word logos.

7:30.0

So, what makes us different in the beast of the wild were able to reason, were able to tell the just from the unjust, not just pain from pleasure, speeches who we are. It's not just some indifferent thing. It would differentiate us from dogs or animals or the beast of the wild. Okay. So, a leftist, though, believes, and you see this playing out all in society, that if you say something wrong, that if you say something offensive, you could actually be making the world more hostile and dangerous. They would call this hate speech. You see that kind of spreading all across America.

8:00.0

Today, a liberal wouldn't go that far. A true honest liberal would say, boy, I believe they're systemic injustices. I believe there's issues here, but I'll still kind of rely on freedom of speech and classical liberal values to solve some of the issues. There's very few liberals left in America. If there's any here tonight, I would love to meet you and talk to you. There's very few liberals. There's a lot of leftists and they control almost everything. Okay. The third category and even more dying breed in some ways. That's a good thing. And other ways, it's not a good thing because actually used to be a really good holding pattern for you.

8:30.0

You know, I mean, I think we have a lot of people who are young people before they grew up and became conservatives, which are libertarians, which is a libertarian is someone who believes more than anything else. The most hostile thing you could possibly do is use government power and use the government for any purpose whatsoever. Now, if I had to use a word to describe libertarianism, it would be indifferent. Now, that might be a little harsh for some of you that are libertarians watching online, but it's the principle of not using government is more important than what might actually be happening.

9:00.0

So, for example, who's to say that we should use government to clean up people using drugs on the side of the street. We just can't make government any bigger because, you know, it doesn't matter what the result is. Our principle disallows us from interfering with that particular action. Now, I have a lot in common with libertarians on certain issues. Speech. Libertarians tend to be like a hundred percent pro free speech absolutists. Libertarians are also very good on the second amendment and could not agree more, by the way. The second amendment protects all the other people.

9:30.0

We can go into that later if you guys choose where I disagree with libertarians a lot on is when there is a moral crisis happening in front of us. If the excuse is, well, we can't do anything because it might violate my principles. I say, wait a second. If children are being medically mutilated for profit. If you have a homelessness crisis and our country is being invaded, I really don't need a lecture about government indifference. Let's solve the problem prudently and appropriately because the good is greater than

10:00.0

your principle as a bumper sticker they might wear as well no matter what we can't use the government because the government is the worst thing ever. Now, I'm no fan of expanding government where the people that came up with big government sucks. Obviously, but we don't like the government not just because it's fashionable not to like the government. We don't like the government because we don't like power being concentrated too much for two or two reasons, you know, two awful reasons, but we're not going to turn a blind eye to sort of injustices and that leads us to conservatives. What is a conservative here that term used all the time? Well, conservative is someone who recognizes the good.

10:30.0

The true and the beautiful does not like using government that resist it. It's in the mold of the founding fathers and the framers. A conservative is someone who agrees with James Madison and Federalist 51 that men are not angels. We're not perfect. We prefer limited government. We want to yield the people's virtue. However, conservatives are willing. If necessary to step up and do what is right. When you start to see a moral or societal crisis unfolding around you. So let me use one example, right? Right now there's this massive controversy.
