Hey guys, happy Friday. Hope you're off to a great start to your day, the beginning of a holiday weekend. I just wanted to jump on real fast and talk to you about a story I'm getting so many questions about that I didn't want you to go into the weekend without a little bit of a foundation for it. I'm sure the last thing that you want to talk about is politics, especially after this week's news. This story is focused on politics in the state of Tennessee. It's making national news. So grab a cup of coffee. We're going to do a little old-fashioned coffee talk as we used to do on smarter news and talk through a little bit of this story. There's a lot of places to dig in here. So I'll preface our conversation with that. We can go a lot of different directions. I just want to give you the basics so you know why we're even talking about this story and then maybe give you a few things to consider.

So in order to do this, I'm just going to go back. And I'm going to have to start with this terrible event that happened in Nashville, as you know, on March 27th.

And that is the school shooting. Six people died, including three children.

And in the aftermath of this school shooting, we've seen a lot of different conversation around

the country, as we typically do after these news events about what's the right way forward.

There are those advocating for stricter gun laws. There are those advocating for stricter school security or are those advocating for stricter school security.

Sometimes there's a clash between these two sides.

And one of the things we saw in Nashville following this school shooting were protests that were happening at the state capital, which is also in Nashville.

Protesters came to the state capital.

They're advocating for stricter gun laws.

And there are

those that support them, including some Democrat lawmakers. There are those that don't agree with them,

including some Republican lawmakers. And there's likely a lot of shades in between. So we can't just

blanket everybody with the same, but just for the purposes of this story, just kind of giving you

that overview.

So a few days after the school shooting, as protests are happening in the Capitol,

you have three lawmakers that are on the floor of the House.

So this is where all the legislative work is being done.

And they step in front of the House in what's described as the well. So in the House of Representatives

or in the Senate in Washington, D.C., or likely in your own state legislature, your state

capital, you're going to see something similar, which is the person that comes to the front,

gets the attention, gets the microphone, is where everyone is focused. And these lawmakers joined in in not only the
