My friends, we are wrapping up the first paragraph of Philippians chapter 2 today. And this is a passage I mentioned that my wife and I have often used in marital counseling

and pre-marital counseling, even though the passage does not speak specifically about marriage.

Now why would we do that?

Well because we are Christians before we are married couples

in most cases.

And even if you become a Christian after you become married

in terms of priority your commitment to Christ is a higher commitment than that of

your spouse or at least it should be.

And so every principle that applies to us as a Christ follower, therefore applies to the relationship

we enjoy with our married partner.

And so these kinds of passages can easily and should easily be applied to marriage in every

aspect.

Now this particular passage is especially important and one that we include in

counseling because it is focusing on how we should think about other people and how we should give of ourselves

for the benefit of others.
