Thank you. Welcome to Truth for Life where we're kicking off 2025 with a study in Second Samuel.

Alistair Begg begins by considering the long-term consequences King David faced because of his sin with Bashsheba.

When we face temptation, we often assume our choices only affect ourselves in the moment.

0:44.2

But as we trace the devastating lifelong ripple effects of King David's sin,

0:49.1

we'll see how it extended throughout his kingdom and affected his family.

1:04.1

Well, I invite you to turn with me to 2nd Samuel and to Chapter 13.

1:14.2

And I should probably just say, as I read this passage, and before we seek to look at it together, that in some ways, this talk should have not a government health warning, but it should have a little

2:13.2

2 Samuel 13, verse 1.

2:17.0

Now, Absalom, David's son, had a beautiful sister whose name was

2:21.2

Tamar. And after a time, Amnon, David's son, loved her. And Amnon was so tormented that he made

2:28.6

himself ill because of his sister, Tamar, for she was a virgin, and it seemed impossible to Amnon to do anything

2:35.9

to her. But Amnan had a friend whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimea, David's brother,

2:43.0

and Jonadab was a very crafty man. And he said to him, O son of the king, why are you so

2:48.1

haggard morning after morning, will you not tell me?
