Welcome to Wellness Unmas. I'm Dr. Nicole Sapphire, and this is your weekly rundown. Well, today's

0:09.3

weekly rundown, I may be sounding a little bit more sunny in my disposition. And why is that? Well,

0:14.8

that's because I'm currently away on vacation. Doesn't everyone just sound a little bit more chipper

0:19.9

when they are kind of not doing

0:21.8

their everyday activities? I'm currently away enjoying some warmth, some sunny weather, and yes,

0:28.3

I'm soaking up every minute of it because getting outdoors, you've heard me say it,

0:33.0

isn't just good for the soul. It's actually good medicine. And we don't talk enough about how good it is,

0:38.6

how powerful being outside really can be for your body. Sunlight helps our bodies produce

0:43.7

vitamin D, which plays a role in our immune system, bone health, muscle strength, and even

0:49.5

mood regulation. And let's be clear, vitamin D deficiency, it's incredibly common, especially in colder

0:56.1

climates where we spend months bundled up indoors. If you find yourself feeling a little

1:01.4

down during the darker winter months, it's not all in your head. It's actually because

1:06.4

you're not getting enough sunshine. So even just 15 to 20 minutes of sunlight on exposed skin can

1:12.4

help depending on where you live. The season, your skin type, you know, but 15 to 20 minutes,

1:17.8

good rule of thumb. Add in some fresh air, some movement of the body, it all lowers your

1:23.5

stress hormones, and suddenly a walk outside looks a lot like a wellness prescription.

1:29.1

But here's the reality check. These sunny escapes, it's not going to last very long. I'm going

1:34.9

to be heading home to a massive snowstorm. I keep reading about the headlines. I have to actually

1:40.3

put my phone away because it's a little depressing, but it definitely seems like we're getting a lot of weather to the northeast.

1:46.8

So this is a good reminder that while winter can be beautiful, it does also come with some real health and safety risks if you're not prepared.

1:54.5

So I wanted to put together some tips for you as a lot of the country may be seeing some weather in the upcoming days.

2:06.2

Let's talk about snowstorm prep because prevention is always better than emergency care.
