Welcome to the fourth season of Criminalia.

And I'm Holly Fryne.

If you joined us for previous seasons,

you've gotten an earful of stories

about lady poisoners, stalkers,

and a bunch of very audacious imposters.

In this season,

we are going to look at the stories

of some pillaging pirates.

Just like in those previous seasons,

we're continuing to look at what really went down

and if any of these historical perpetrators

might look different through a modern eye,

we're going to make those dead men tell their tales.

We're also going to bust some myths about piracy as we go.

For instance,

it's actually a little bit of a myth

that pirates buried their treasure.

For most pirates, their treasure was not typically gold.

It was often food, water, clothing, alcohol,

and weapons that they had stolen from the ships

...
