I'm Doug Parker, and this is your cruise news brief for Sunday, August 5th, 2018.

Grand Cayman is celebrating record cruise passengers. In June, the island had more than 115,000 guests,

now exceeding a million passengers for the first part of 2018. The island will also vote on building

a new cruise pier in the next few weeks, though the project is now seeing more opposition than support. More than 100,000 signatures have petitioned the project in fear of

damaging the coral reef system and overpopulating the beaches. A Holland America crew member

went overboard in southeast Alaska on Thursday evening. The ship turned around and the Coast Guard

assisted in the search and rescue effort with no luck.

The search was eventually called off on Friday afternoon.

The MS Amsterdam was on a seven-night Alaska cruise from Seattle.

And the 2,900 passenger Celebrity Edge has successfully completed her first round of seed trials, where over 60 tests were done.

The second and third round of seed trials will be completed in September, and Celebrity Edge

will debut in the U.S. this upcoming November.
