Summary

As recently as two weeks ago, we might not have thought that Texans-Vikings and Lions-Cardinals would be the games we'd most be looking forward to in Week 3. Therein lies much of the beauty of the NFL. Robert Mays and Derrik Klassen dig deep into those matchups on the Week 3 preview episode of The Athletic Football Show. The guys also discuss who's more desperate for a win in the Ravens-Cowboys game, which of the 2-0 Steelers and 2-0 Chargers is more for real, the relative struggles of the Colts offense through two weeks, and a whole lot more.

Welcome to the Athletic Football Show, brought to you by Thursday Night Football only on Prime Video.

I am Robert Mays.

Week three, our week three preview is here.

0:13.5

We kick things off by recapping a, I don't know, pretty notable Jets win over the Patriots.

0:18.7

I thought Aaron Rogers looked incredible last night.

0:21.2

Derek and I dug into what we saw from Rogers, what it might mean for the rest of this

0:25.9

jet season, and what the Patriots performance, specifically from the offensive line.

0:30.3

And Drake May, even coming into this game, might mean for New England here over the next

0:34.5

month or so. We dug into the games of the week. Cardinals Lions is surprisingly a very fun one. We had a great conversation about Kyla Murray, chatted about the Vikings and the Texans, another surprisingly great game in week three, based on what the Vikings defense has done over the first couple weeks. Went under the hood with the Colts offense, just tried to figure out why they've struggled a little bit, specifically throwing the ball, and then dug into a couple other notable matchups

0:57.5

from an interesting week three slate.

0:59.2

So let's get to our conversation with Derek and all of the week three chatter.

1:09.6

Well, Derek, that was certainly an interesting Thursday night football game.

1:15.1

Even if you expected the Jets to come out and put a walloping on the Patriots, I don't think

1:21.6

that version of the Jets offense and that version of Aaron Rogers is something that many people had on their bingo card

1:28.6

after the way the first two weeks and went. Not that he was bad or terrible over the first two

1:33.5

weeks, but what we just saw over the last two and a half hours recording this while the fourth

1:38.3

quarter is still going on, that was shades of like that guy, that guy who is one of the greatest

1:44.0

quarterbacks that we have ever seen.

1:46.6

That's the thing. The first two weeks, I think if we got that for the remainder of the season for the Jets, that would have been fine. That would have been good enough for them to do what they needed to do this season. And that would have been okay. This game, again, I don't know if we're going to get this for the rest of the season,

1:43.9

but the fact that he can still have this game against the defense that we, you know,

1:47.4

thought the first two weeks was pretty good, coming into the season was pretty good, even though they've been banged up, like, the fact that they could come out and have this game and Rogers can look like that. The biggest difference to me, I think Aaron Rogers was by next gen stats is charting like one of four on throws where he was on the move, which they track is moving at eight miles an hour.

2:22.3

I think he was five for five in this game.
