We begin today by remembering that it was 10 years ago today, the Houston Fire Department,

had its roughest day ever since inception.

It was 10 years ago today at the Southwest Inn, which you will probably more likely remember

as the Road Runner Inn, which it was before that.

On the Southwest Freeway after you passed Hillcroft on your left to the South, just past

that there was a low-rent motel called the Southwest Inn, prostitute zone of about a half

mile there, a drug haven, Xeroff property, had a real cheap, low-end Indian restaurant

that served Gujarati food called Bojan, BHOJA Inn, and a fire started.

Now, worth noting that the property had been cited multiple times for grease trap problems,

that's a real fire trap, fire problem, and for all sorts of fire suppression, failures,

the system not being up to date, it catches fire during the lunch service.

But for some reason it's not called in for three hours, an unreported fire for three hours.

When the fire department responded, they come blowing in and the building structure has

lost its integrity, but they don't know that.

They don't know what they don't know, they're just there trying to put out the fire, hope

there's not anybody left inside.

Four firefighters would die on that, Captain Matthew Renaud, 35 of 51s, a 12-year veteran,

engineer operator Robert BB, 41 of 51s, a 12-year veteran also, firefighter Robert Garner,

29 of station 68s, a three-year veteran, and probationary firefighter Anne Sullivan, she

was only 24, she was also a station 68s, she had just graduated from the Houston Fire

Department Academy with one month of service, Anne had been a volunteer firefighter, I know
