My Lord and my God, I firmly believe that you are here, that you see me, that you hear me.

I adore you with profound reverence.

I ask your pardon for my sins and the grace to make this time of prayer fruitful.

My Immaculate Mother, St. Joseph, my

father, and Lord, my guardian angel, intercede for me. The 27th Sunday in ordinary time.

A reading from the Gospel of Luke, Chapter 17. Will any one of you, who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him

when he comes in from the field come at once and sit down a table we will not

rather say to him prepare supper for me and gird yourself to serve me till I eat

and drink and afterwards you shall eat and drink does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded?

So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say,

we are unworthy servants. We have only done what was our duty.

Duty is linked to the word due.

The definition of the word justice is giving to everyone what is their due.

If you buy an ice cream, you give the ice cream seller his due, the cost of the ice cream.

When you pay him, you are not doing him a favor, but giving him his due.

We have a good sense of justice when people owe us something.

Imagine you lend your phone to a friend to call home, because his ran out a battery.

Then you ask him if you can borrow his pen for a second, and he says,

No way, if you forgot yours, it is not my fault.

It doesn't seem very reasonable, does it?
