It was a volunteer for a long time, but when we got our first tronson money from the legislature,

the board decided to make it a more of a full-time job for me so I do get paid something now.

I have a and still have a company that owns and operates an independent automotive service and repair.

But the real story, I guess you might want to know is I'm the third generation of my family to serve on the Battleship Texas Foundation.

My grandfather helped bring it in 1948 to San Jacino.

He served for a long time.

My mother served for a long time and I've been on the board since 2005

Let me go back from one how did how did your grandfather get involved was he a World War II veteran? He was a World War I veteran and he, the sister ship, the New York, the Navy decommissioned it and took it out to sea for target practice and my

grandfather was just a community-minded guy and he got together with some other

community leaders I think the main man of influence you may know the name I remember was

Jesse Jones and they went they went to the Navy and said we don't want you to

sink to Texas we want to bring it to Texas. And they said, okay, we'll work that out, but you have to pay for the toe to tow it from the East Coast down to Texas. So my grandfather, who was in
