When Walt Disney World opened in October 1971, it was regarded as the vacation kingdom of the world.

And like everything Disney has done from the early days of the studios to Disneyland and of course Walt Disney World itself, it was something new and innovative and unlike anything anyone had experienced before.

It was a immersive themed entertainment that was focused first and foremost on cohesive story and detail even over what the ride systems they might be using would be.

And that's remained true as the resort continued and continues to expand.

And less than five years after Walt Disney World opened, Disney introduced Disney's River Country, the first water park at the Walt Disney World Resort on June 20th, 1976.
