Summary

We're back! In case you were unaware, the lack of content over the last while was because of the PhD, which is now finished. This means, yes, I am finally Dr Zack! Imagine that! I have a lot to say about the future of this podcast, and stick around for some honesty about the PhD process and how I'm doing generally after this four year plus saga. I'm really excited to dive back into podcasting after all this.

And it goes without saying, but thanksss so much for all your support over the last few years!

But now both the thesis and the Viva are finished, and I'm waiting on a date for the graduation ceremony.

Everything on my side's finished, and I can confirm that my thesis passed with very minor corrections,

You're now listening to Dr. Zachary Twomley.

0:59.6

I can't say that without a massive smile on my face, but of course, just call me, Zach.

1:06.0

I think we should take a moment to appreciate the significance of this moment.

1:10.3

We've come a long way since

1:11.6

2012. It's nearly 12 years since when diplomacy fails released its first episode when I began

1:18.8

on a journey which became one of the foundational experiences of my life. It should be stated

1:24.7

for the record, without when diplomacy fails, there is no Dr. Zach. And I know

1:30.2

it's a cliche, but I really couldn't have done this without you. It's because of your response to this

1:36.2

podcast over the last decade that I gradually acquired the confidence, the knowledge, and the ambition

1:42.7

to go further, and that led me eventually to the PhD.

1:47.4

We don't need to get into a biography of me right now. I'm sure I've said these things in some

1:53.0

fashion or another at some point before, but I've always struggled with imposter syndrome,

1:58.1

stemming from the collapse of my plans in 2010, when I failed to get into my intended history and English course in University College Dublin.

2:07.5

But long story short, I took a different route, a post-leaving cert course, which in my hubris I had dismissed as an option B for losers.

2:16.4

But this loser embraced that course as his true

2:19.3

last chance to get into university, and after passing that course, I acquired my place
